The Brady Bunch Wiki

Pass the Tabu is the second episode of Season 4 of The Brady Bunch, and the 74th overall episode of the series. Written by Tam Spiva and directed by Jack Arnold, it first aired 29 September 1972 on ABC.

Short Summary[]

After bad luck continues to befall the family, the Brady boys learn the ancient tiki is tabu and must be discarded at an ancient burial ground.

With the idol around his neck for good luck, Greg suffers a near-tragic surfing crash. Mike and Carol are able to bring him to shore. He's lost the tiki idol, but Bobby doesn't mind. Jan finds the tiki idol, and Peter claims it. Later, a tarantula finds its way into their room and crawls on top of Peter. The boys talk to David, who tells them that island superstition deems the idol to be a source of bad luck, news which the boys pass along to the rest of the family.

Although David doesn't believe in the superstition, he points the boys to old Mr. Hanalei, a construction worker who does believe in the superstition. He tells the boys that to rid themselves of the bad luck, they need to return the idol to the ancient burial site of the island kings, to which he himself has never been. The boys head off on their mission, telling only the girls of their plans and vowing them to secrecy. What the boys don't know is that an unknown sinister element is also at the burial site.
