You Can't Win Them All is the twenty-second episode of Season 4 of The Brady Bunch, and the 94th overall episode of the series. Written by Lois Hire and directed by Jack Donohue, it first aired 16 March 1973 on ABC.
Cindy wins a spot on a kids' television quiz show and gains a huge ego, but blanks when the cameras start rolling.
Bobby and Cindy have been chosen to take the test for their respective grades to see which four students will represent Clinton Grammar School at the upcoming Question the Kids television quiz show. Humble Cindy asks for help studying from everyone in her family as she believes only hard work will yield positive results. Right before the exam, Cindy, despite her constant studying, states that she can only do her best and hopes that is enough to be chosen. Bobby, however, gets an extreme case of swelled head, believes he's a cinch to be chosen, and forgoes studying.
Cindy's hard work pays off as she is indeed chosen, but Bobby, to use his own words, gets "wiped out" by the exam and doesn't make the final four. Cindy believes that she is now a celebrity. Her swelled head does affect her performance on the quiz show; she bombs miserably when she develops stage fright. Meanwhile, Mike and Carol are planning a small barbecue for a few friends. That planned dinner constantly gets changed, from the ever-growing invitation list, to the menu to the date.
